Why Do You Create?

Why Do You Create was a live event that happened on May 10, 2019 at Make.Shift Art Space. The event featured fashion designers, live music, art vendors, and more. The goal of the event was to showcase local artists and create allow creatives to collaborate in a natural and meaningful manner.

As it was one of my personal goals for 2019 to meet more creatives and get involved with more artistic projects, a friend of mine reached out and sent me the designers information. I followed through with the event going into it without knowing anyone else that was involved, but I pushed my creative boundaries and didn’t let myself give up.

The outfit that was chosen for me featured a white and red bodycon dress, something I was quite uncomfortable with in the beginning. I’m usually very secure in my body and presence, but red is a color I stay away from. As much as I wanted to drop out, I knew this was something that could lead to more connections and creative opportunities. I usually stay away from red clothes, red lipstick, red eyeshadow- it really just isn’t my color. However, I put my trust in the designers vision and pushed myself to make the most of the situation.

I gave myself a few hours before the show to get myself together and figure out a makeup look to go along with the outfit. I usually practice my makeup looks, doing them multiple times before a photoshoot or event, to make sure every detail is perfect. For this, I trusted my gut and went straight in with a deep red eyeshadow. I topped it off with a graphic white liner to match and, well, that was it. Because of the creative space I gave myself I was able to create something completely out of my comfort zone and learn a lot about myself in the process. To this day, this remains one of my favorite looks, as it reminds me of my goals and keeps me grounded.
